Kobarid and the mountain battles of the Isonzo Front
Between 1915 and 1917, some of the greatest mountain battles in human history were fought in the Upper Soča Valley. The focal point of these events was the town of Kobarid, which has gone down in history books all over the world. On the surrounding plateaus, well-preserved remains from the Great War (trenches, caves, small churches and chapels, memorials, military cemeteries) represent an internationally-significant historical and cultural heritage.

From Gradisca d’Isonzo to Muggia
Follow the Alpe Adria Trail for over a hundred beautiful kilometres through the most breathtaking sections of the karstic plateau, all the way to the shores of the Adriatic Sea. This awe-inspiring journey begins with the trenches and tunnels of Gorizia’s Karst region, and leads travellers to the Gulf of Trieste’s most scenic paths. Along the way, you will pass by many points of interest, such as the famous Lipica Equestrian Park, the Rosandra Valley Nature Reserve and the seaside town of Muggia.
